crazy talk

I’ve made a decision. I’m going to treat people to a dose of themselves. I’m going to go out of my way to say things like “You had your baby in a HOSPITAL?? Are you CRAZY??!” and “What?!? You mean to tell me your baby sleeps through the night?! At THIS age?! That’s just not normal!”

What if. What if the norms were shifted just a bit off center. It wouldn’t take much. Who decides what to measure against? Well, what if I took on that decision. Then what would our conversations sound like? Who’d be crazy then?

Sure! And why not? You are smart, educated, and have good reasons for the things you do. You (likely) believe that the world would be a better, saner place if people lived like you do, made choices that you make, acceped things in the way that you did. (Don't tell my students, of course-- I've spent the whole term of Ethics class telling them I'm not trying to change their minds, just to make them think... though, of course, I'd love it if they all thought like me...). In any case, do please give them their medicine-- they deserve it for all they make you put up with!!
